About Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC)

The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) is an initiative of the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC), Government of India, aimed at systematically fostering the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across higher education institutions in the country. The ICFAI University, Sikkim, established its IIC in the year 2019, aligning itself with the national mission to build an innovation-led ecosystem within campuses.

    Vision and Mission

  • Vision: To inspire and empower students and faculty of The ICFAI University, Sikkim to innovate, solve real-world problems, and lead entrepreneurial ventures.
  • Mission: To provide a structured framework for ideation, experimentation, and transformation of innovative ideas into viable products or startups.

    Objectives

  • Promote innovation and entrepreneurial thinking among students and faculty.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, hackathons, and competitions for idea development.
  • Facilitate networking opportunities with entrepreneurs, investors, and incubators.
  • Foster collaboration between academia and industry through innovation-driven activities.
  • Encourage prototype development, patent filing, and startup formation.

Activities Conducted

The IIC at ICFAI University Sikkim actively organizes:
  • Innovation Workshops and Webinars
  • Entrepreneurship Bootcamps
  • Field/Exposure Visits to Incubation Centres
  • Idea Pitching Sessions and Competitions
  • Celebration of Innovation Days (e.g., National Startup Day, World Creativity and Innovation Day)

These activities are supported through the Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship (IIE) Club, a vibrant platform managed by students and faculty coordinators.

Key Highlights (2023–2024)

The IIC at ICFAI University Sikkim actively organizes:
  • Conducted Design Thinking and Ideation workshops in collaboration with external experts.
  • Hosted sessions on “From Idea to Startup” with successful entrepreneurs.
  • Organized an Innovation Poster Competition with interdisciplinary participation.
  • Students participated in Smart India Hackathon (SIH) and similar national-level events.
  • Initiated mentorship programs for students interested in prototyping and business modeling.

Structure of IIC

The IIC is led by a team comprising:
  • President (IIC) – Senior Faculty Member
  • Convener – Faculty from Innovation/Entrepreneurship domain
  • Student Coordinators – From various departments
  • Innovation Ambassadors – Trained faculty members
  • External Experts – Entrepreneurs, Alumni, Industry Mentors

Alignment with MIC Objectives

The ICFAI University, Sikkim aligns its IIC activities with the MIC Calendar, conducting:
  • Quarterly activities as per the MoE framework
  • Self-driven institutional initiatives for local innovation
  • Participation in regional/national innovation challenges

Future Roadmap

The ICFAI University, Sikkim aligns its IIC activities with the MIC Calendar, conducting:
  • Establish a Pre-Incubation Centre within campus.
  • Collaborate with local entrepreneurs and MSMEs to mentor student innovations.
  • Encourage faculty-led startups and IPR generation.
  • Increase NIRF Innovation Rankings participation.
