Music, dance to dazzle Siliguri - Students from 21 colleges to take part at City Centre t2 Spotlight on September 12 & 13
September 10, 2014 :

Students from 21 colleges from across Jalpaiguri district, Siliguri subdivision, Darjeeling hills and Sikkim will participate in the grand finale of an inter-college competition in music and dance at City Centre here on September 12 and 13.
The competition will be organised jointly by The Telegraph t2 and City Centre. According to the organisers of City Centre t2 Spotlight 2014, over 300 students will take part in the two-day event.
Hot Stepper (fusion dance competition), Raagsutra (eastern solo song competition), Star Quotient (Face of the College), Muzik Marathon (group antakshari competition) and Megawatt (band competition-western) are the events where students will vie for prizes.
Around 15 students each have been selected from 21 colleges from Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, Darjeeling hills and Sikkim. These students were selected through intra-college competitions which started on August 23. Today is the last day of the intra-college competitions. There are five events that will be held in City Centre on September 12 and 13. We have started preparations for the grand finale,? said Mahesh Gurung, in-charge of marketing and events at City Centre, Siliguri.
While Hot Stepper, Raagasutra and Muzik Marathon will be held on September 12, Star Quotient and Megawatt are scheduled for the next day.
The events for the grand finale will start at 2pm on both the days and will continue till evening. On the first day, three events will be held and we are expecting a footfall of over 5,000 at City Centre. As September 13 is Saturday, we are expecting a larger crowd of over 15,000 people at the event,? Gurung said.
Some of the 21 colleges participating in the event are Gyanjyoti College (Siliguri), Southfield College (Darjeeling), Jalpaiguri Law College and Sikkim Government Law College. Eminent personalities will be judging the five events in the grand finale. An award ceremony will be held on Saturday, Gurung said.
College authorities are excited about the performance of their students in the two-day event. Such platforms provide good exposure to our students who otherwise perform only in college events. Performing in front of a larger crowd boosts their confidence and they get to interact with a larger group of students from different places, said Fr Donatus Kujur, the principal of St Josephs North Point College, Darjeeling, whose students are participating in the event.
